FAL
A Brief History
During the mid 1990’s Sanlam employed various groups of professional financial advisers throughout the country. It was convention at the time to name such professional groups with the words “Financial Advisory Services” followed by a location description. This was abbreviated to, for instance, FA Pretoria or FA Stellenbosch. Not surprising then that the group of financial advisers stationed at the Orange Free State head office of Sanlam were called FA Loch Logan, after the small fresh water lake in the beautiful city of Bloemfontein. They became well known by their abbreviated name, FAL, throughout the Karoo and Orange Free State.
Around the turn of the current century all the large life insurers were under considerable pressure to make such groups of financial advisers independent. When FAL became independent, they opted to register the name FAL because it was a recognised and known brand in a predominantly Afrikaans speaking environment. In the ensuing years a FAL group of companies were incorporated to make a full range of financial and other services available to clients.
